Legal Advice for Businesses & Individuals in Human & Veterinary Health and other Sciences.

Most of my clients are professionals, entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses. My practice areas include contract formation and negotiation, corporate entity formation, FDA & CVM, and telehealth and I am a member of the Food and Drug Law Institute. I have a strong background in tort liability, medical malpractice, product liability & commercial litigation and have represented a major hospital system in Richmond, as well as individual healthcare professionals. This experience enables me to help business clients avoid future litigation with proper planning at the outset.

I have lectured on medical malpractice and risk management, tort liability, commercial damages, contract litigation, electric utility liability, the Virginia Equine Liability Act, art law and conservation easements, among other subjects. As the former Assistant City Attorney for the City of Richmond, I represented the Division of Animal Control and I have served on the Board of the Richmond SPCA for many years. I am also the owner and operator of a horse boarding and veterinary lay up facility.  Thus, I have vast experience with issues unique to veterinary medicine.

Formerly a partner with both McGuireWoods, LLP and Kaufman & Canoles, P.C. in Richmond, VA, I was awarded Martindale Hubbell's AV Rating. (Martindale Hubbell is an internationally recognized ranking of legal ability, based on peer review, and AV is the highest rating a lawyer can obtain.) I was also awarded Virginia Business Magazine's "Legal Elite", and named as one of the top 40 litigation attorneys in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

I have a B.S. in Biology from Vanderbilt University and graduated from the University of Richmond, School of Law, where I was on Law Review and a member of Moot Court.
